Healthcare

What to expect from healthcare in the Cayman Islands

Healthcare Overview

The Cayman Islands has a high standard of healthcare with modern facilities, qualified physicians, and a range of specialists. The Health Services Authority (HSA) operates the main public hospital — the Cayman Islands Hospital in George Town — along with district health centres and a facility on Cayman Brac.

There are also several private clinics and medical practices offering general and specialist care. For complex procedures not available on-island, patients are typically referred to Miami, which is a one-hour flight away.

Health insurance is mandatory for all residents. Employers are required to provide health insurance for work permit holders. Self-employed individuals and retirees must arrange their own coverage. The Health Insurance Commission regulates minimum standards for all health insurance plans.
